Community Service

Our Team is Always Ready to Help

At Checkpoint EHR, our EHR system company believes in giving back to our community, and there’s no better way we can think of to do that than by serving our community. As a faith-based organization, we believe in having a servant’s heart, where we help those in need and provide support for those struggling to make ends meet, clean up after a storm, or feed their families.

Throughout the year, we partner with various organizations to help serve the community, and each of our employees is given paid time off to volunteer. This means that they can schedule time off to help at a soup kitchen or volunteer at a food drive, without having to use their nights and weekends. Many of them still use their nights and weekends to volunteer, but we wanted to provide them with the opportunity to give back whenever they wanted. Explore some of our recent community service projects in Louisiana and Tennessee below.

Holiday Care Package Supply Drive

In alignment with our core values of service and self-initiated growth, Checkpoint proudly donated household cleaning supplies to the Holiday Care Package Supply Drive presented by Tonya Bolden-Ball and the TBB Collective. The TBB Collective is a leadership cohort that Joy participated in and graduated from this year. By supporting community initiatives like this, we empower both our team and those we serve to grow and thrive together.

Feed The Homeless Project

The “Feed the Homeless” Project in Lafayette, LA, was a huge success. Checkpoint EHR proudly partnered with a local non-profit to organize a care package giveaway and meal for homeless people in the Lafayette area. We were able to raise enough money to serve more than 100 people, and more than 20 people showed up to volunteer, including students and faculty from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. City officials were also on hand to help, and the care package giveaway included blankets, socks, wipes, washcloths, and toiletries. We also gave each person a brown bag lunch with a soft drink to take with them. We love giving back to our community!

Easter Basket Giveaway

Checkpoint was proud to partner with Helpful Neighbors, a local non-profit in Lafayette, LA, to distribute more than 700 Easter baskets to foster children and children in need. The turnout was amazing, with local city officials, the mayor of Lafayette, and city council members there to volunteer. Former New England Patriots running back Kevin Faulk, a native of Lafayette, was one of the many people and organizations who donated baskets this year. The day was bright and beautiful, and our EHR systems team had a wonderful time handing out baskets. We look forward to helping out again next year and for many years to come!

Hurricane Laura Relief

Hurricane Laura made landfall near Cameron, Louisiana. As part of a record-breaking 2020 hurricane season, Laura swept across the Caribbean before impacting parts of Florida, Louisiana, Texas, Mississippi, and Arkansas. The damage was extensive in many places, with states of emergency being declared by multiple governors.

Some of our team members volunteered to help with cleanup in Louisiana, donating their time and energy in and around Lafayette, LA. The damage was extensive, as you can see in the images on this page. Our team members loved being able to help following Hurricane Laura, and it’s just one of the many examples of how we strive to be a contributing and connected part of our communities.

Christmas Toy Drive

Southwest Louisiana was severely affected during the hurricane season of 2020, and at Checkpoint EHR, we wanted to find a way to help out during the Christmas season. We worked with a couple of strategic partners in Lake Charles, LA to plan a toy drive for more than 300 families that were affected by the hurricanes. With such great need following the substantial losses from the storms, we wanted to make sure every family had a blessed Christmas. We were able to raise $10,000 over the course of two months, which went towards gifts and cleaning supplies for families in need. We wanted to spread love and cheer at the end of what was a very difficult year for many.

Nashville Diaper Connection Service Project

Kallie Reinhard, a customer success representative at Checkpoint EHR, spent a day this past December packaging diapers for distribution around the Nashville area with The Nashville Diaper Connection. As the area’s only diaper bank, the Diaper Connection uses their partner agencies to make sure that, as their motto states, “no child wet behind.”

One in three Nashville families report experiencing diaper need, and there is no government aid to help provide this essential item. Families in the Diaper Connection’s network receive 50 diapers per month from the program. The goal is that those 50 diapers will make it possible for the family’s budget to last the month, and that parents can also take advantage of childcare centers, as most childcare centers require parents to supply a day’s worth of diapers for their child.

To make the distribution of those 50 diapers possible, every package of diapers the Diaper Connection receives must be taken apart and re-packaged into stacks of 50. This is where volunteers such as Kallie come in. The Nashville Diaper Connection relies heavily on volunteer work to get thousands of diapers ready every month. In one visit, Kallie and her team of three were able to package 5,600 diapers that ultimately served 112 babies. It’s through efforts such as these that we feel we can best serve others and help our communities thrive.

Hidden Trace Farm

Recently, a team of 50 individuals met in Franklin, TN, to help build a large pavilion at Hidden Trace Farm. This farm is a children’s day camp that’s filled with cabins and barns, and is a place of excitement, education, and faith. The farm was once a private property, with a single family living there since the 1990s. The owner’s father had been diagnosed with dementia, and one day, the owner and her father took a ride around the property. The daughter hoped that seeing the farm would help bring back happy memories for her father. During their ride, the owner thought about how the farm could offer so much more, and how it could be a place where people could gather and come together in community. As she spoke this to her father, he agreed and said that all of her dreams and ideas for the farm would come true. The father has since passed away, but what he said did come true — the farm is now a place of joy and community.

Our medical billing software company’s CEO, Joe Murphy, and his family helped build the pavilion, which will be used by children, teens, and families as they spend time at Hidden Trace Farm, learning and growing together, and enjoying the great outdoors.

Helping Throughout the Country

We have employees working remotely all across the country, and each one is dedicated to our mission of giving back. While not every effort may be as noteworthy as hurricane cleanup, each hour that one of our team members spends volunteering is an hour where they make a difference in other people’s lives. By helping with donations, food drives, and other endeavors, our employees can serve others and meet the needs of their community.

If you have a community service project or non-profit that needs volunteers, please feel free to reach out to us today. We’re always looking for new opportunities for our team to give back, and we’d love to speak with you about how we can help. Contact us online and a member of our staff will respond as soon as possible. We look forward to hearing from you!

Dr. Suess’s Read Across America Day

On March 2, 2024, Checkpoint EHR was proud to celebrate literacy and share the joy of reading by participating in Dr. Seuss’s Read Across America Day with some of our local schools! Three Checkpoint volunteers — Joy, Ashley, and Shawanna — were able to visit schools,  share the magic of storytelling with students, and be part of a powerful educational initiative:

  • Shawanna Thibodeaux visited Bell City Elementary in Bell City, LA: "It was so fun getting to interact with the kids through reading. The fun hair and clothes got me lots of hugs and high-fives. They loved it but not as much as I did. I got lost in the world of Dr. Seuss. They even invited me back for just a normal reading day."
  • Joy Kerr visited Truman Early Childhood Education Center in Lafayette, LA: "Reading to young children of all ages is an act of service with hope to inspire the next generation."
  • Ashley Burwell visited Stantonsburg Elementary School in Stantonsburg, NC: "As someone who loves to read, when the school reached out about volunteers for ‘Read Across America’ week; I knew this would be the perfect opportunity to engage and support our teachers and students.”

For Checkpoint EHR, supporting initiatives like Dr. Seuss’s Read Across America Day aligns with our commitment to fostering learning opportunities and community engagement. Recognizing that literacy is a cornerstone of personal and academic growth, events like these offer an essential platform to promote the joy of reading and instill a lifelong love for literature in the hearts of young readers.
